STORY OF KRISZTIÁN OLÁH | PIANIST - COMPOSER
In some families, children grow up speaking two or even three languages from different cultures. Krisztián’s relationship with music is much the same. Different musical traditions have shaped him equally, becoming a natural part of his own musical language. Rather than staying within familiar boundaries, he creates new connections between them.
As both a pianist and a composer, he followed the full path of classical music education, all the way to his master’s degree. At the same time, he naturally incorporated the language of jazz into his musical thinking, something he had grown up with and always considered a fundamental part of who he is. He began teaching as a jazz piano teacher at the very same institution where he had studied composition.
These two paths, developing side by side and deeply connected to each other, have shaped his unique musical voice. His music draws equally on the compositional forms of the classical tradition and the freedom of improvisation. His most important project, the Oláh Krisztián Quartet, has the line-up of a classic jazz quartet, but musically, it brings something quite different and fresh to contemporary music.
Even at a young age, Krisztián stood out among his peers for his broad, holistic approach to music. He brought a new voice to an already diverse musical landscape, and this is one of the reasons he has become one of Hungary’s most sought-after musicians. Today, he feels equally at home in classical concert halls and on the stages of jazz clubs.
