Bacchus Consort, under the artistic direction of Artúr Schallinger-Foidl and Zsolt Szabó, was founded in 2014. The ensemble is dedicated to the performance of late Renaissance and early Baroque repertoire on period instruments. Their choice of Bacchus as a namesake reflects the historical context in which music, fine wines and festive meals were integral parts of social and communal life.

Their programs are unique in Hungary, ranging from popular tavern songs to refined courtly music, and they place particular emphasis on works in which Baroque idioms are interwoven with folk elements. Through carefully conceived thematic programs, they present the diverse early music traditions of different cultures, reaching both informed audiences and listeners less familiar with early music. Alongside secular repertoire, sacred works also form an essential part of their artistic vision, mirroring the duality of Renaissance and Baroque culture.
